TCU Football: Nicholls State Halftime Report

Horned Frogs lead the Colonels 24-3 at the half

The Frogs elected to receive the first half kickoff, but were unable to get much going on their first drive. Wide receiver Jaylon Robinson made three receptions for 18 yards, but two dropped passes quickly brought the drive to a halt.

Following a punt to the Nicholls State 10 yard line, the Frogs held their ground. Forcing the Colonels to punt, the Frogs special teams fought through the line to get a block, which was then picked up for a scoop and score by Blake Nowell to put TCU ahead 7-0 in the first quarter.

On the ensuing possession TCU held Nicholls State on 4th and 1, forcing a turnover on downs. The Frogs took over at the 47 yard line, but were unable to amount the good field positioning to any points as Nicholls held the Frogs on a try from 4th and 8, turning the ball back over to the visitors.

With 2:36 left in the 1st quarter, the Frogs took over at the 21 yard line and put together a solid drive that ended up in seven points. A 28 yard reception from Warren Thompson got the offense going, and a 19 yard rush from Emani Bailey put TCU in opposition territory.

Chandler Morris, who didn't see much rushing action last week, weaved through the Colonels defense for a 32-yard touchdown, putting TCU in front 14-0.

Despite the efficient production on offensive, the Frogs appeared to play their second-string receivers. In addition to Robinson and Thompson getting in on the action, Jack Bech and DJ Allen saw contributed to the offensive production.

Marching down the field once more, a 23-yard pass to Jordyn Bailey set up the Frogs in the red zone, in which the Frogs extended their lead to 21-0 courtesy of a 14-yard touchdown pass to Robinson.

While the Horned Frog offense was alive and well, the defense got in on the action. A sack by Damonic Williams forced the Colonels into their sixth punt of the half.

With just over five minutes left in the second quarter, Josh Hoover made an appearance in the red zone. Unfortunately for the quarterback, it was short-lived after muffing the snap from shotgun, turning the ball over at the 10 yard line.

Leading the receiving game for the Frogs was Robinson, who hauled in five receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown. On the ground game, Morris had five rushes for 61 yards and a score.

Despite its struggles on offense, the Colonels knocked in a 40-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the half.

But for the Frogs, the offense marched down the field and got themselves into field goal range, before Griffin Kell knocked through a 57-yard field goal to end the half.
