TCU Football: Three Players Named to 2023 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

In this story:
Three more TCU Horned Frogs have been named to a preseason award watch list. This time, it's Brandon Coleman, Chandler Morris, and Savion Williams. All have been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award has been given annually since 2013. SPORTyler, Inc. presents it in conjunction with the City of Tyler, the Tyler Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce.
This award is given to the best offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity. Additionally, the player must have Texas ties – either born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school, or plays at a Texas college.
It is named after Earl Campbell, a running back from Tyler who went to the University of Texas (1974-1977). He won the Heisman Trophy in 1977 and was the No. 1 draft pick in the 1978 NFL Draft. He played eight years in the NFL with the Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints.
TCU’s Max Duggan was last year’s recipient of the award. In 2014, TCU’s Trevone Boykin was the second recipient to receive the award.
A total of 69 players were named to the watch list. For a complete list, click here. Other Big 12 players on the list include Lawrence Arnold (Kansas), Alan Bowman (Oklahoma State), Jerand Bradley (Texas Tech), Tahj Brooks (Texas Tech), Quinn Ewers (Texas), Matthew Golden (Houston), Keanu Hill (BYU), Noah Massey (West Virginia), Donovan Ollie (Cincinnati), Richard Reese (Baylor), Tyler Shough (Texas Tech), and Xavier Worthy (Texas).
Coleman started all 15 games at left tackle last season, placing third on the TCU offense with 1,036 snaps played. Dating back to the 2021 campaign, he has started 23 of the Horned Frogs' last 24 contests. Pro Football Focus has Coleman as the third highest-graded returning offensive lineman in the Big 12.
Morris began last season as the Horned Frogs' starting quarterback before being injured. A sophomore from Highland Park, Texas, Morris made his first career start in a 30-28 win over No. 12 Baylor in 2021. He earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording 531 yards of offense (461 passing, 70 rushing), the second-best total in TCU history. He also had a 7-yard reception in the game. The 461 yards passing were the fourth-most by a Horned Frog and ranked third in Big 12 history for a player in his first career start. It was also the third-most nationally since 2012 for a player in his first career start. Morris had TCU's first 400-yard passing game since Kenny Hill threw for 449 versus Oklahoma in 2016.
Williams started all 15 games last season and is TCU's top returning receiver, with 29 catches a year ago, placing fourth on the team. He had a career-best five receptions in the 62-14 victory over Iowa State in the regular-season finale for his second straight game with a new high in catches. He totaled four receptions for 54 yards the previous week in the 29-28 win at Baylor. Williams had a personal-best 97 yards receiving, including a career-long 57-yard reception and a 29-yard touchdown as part of three catches in the 41-31 win at West Virginia. He provided TCU’s first points of the game with 19-yard touchdown catches in consecutive wins over SMU and Oklahoma.
