TCU Football: What Did We Learn From The Texas Tech Game?

Can the bye week come back? No, seriously, at least then TCU won't leave me disappointed again. The TCU Horned Frogs have been a disaster this season and are on track to join the 2020 LSU Tigers as the only team to appear in a national championship and then fail to be bowl-eligible the following season. This will not be a long "what did we learn article" because, frankly, I don't think there was much to learn from this game that we haven't already seen this season, but continue reading below to see my takeaways.

The Negatives

Missed Tackles

Sigh, another game, another week of writing about how the defense fails to tackle. The difference, however, is that TCU broke their season high for missed tackles against Tech with 25 missed tackles. To put this into perspective, the Horned Frogs had 78 tackles in the game total, meaning 33% of the time a TCU player attempted a tackle, it would be broken. If the Horned Frogs fail to figure out how to tackle correctly, they will be in for a rough game against Texas running back Jonathan Brooks, who leads the country in broken tackles this season.

The Positives

Josh Hoover

While Hoover has struggled at times and looks like a new quarterback getting his feet wet in some of the most hostile environments the Big 12 has to offer, the future is still bright for him. He can look shaky at times, yes, but more often than not, he delivers excellent throws and puts his receivers in a position to go up and compete for the ball. Will Hoover be the quarterback next season? No idea. What I do know is that after half a season of starting, he will gain the confidence and experience needed to enter the near season on a solid note.

Basketball season starts this week

Yeah, this is how the season has gone; they are a basketball school now, right? TCU kicks off the season on Monday and gives Horned Frogs fans another sport to direct attention to if they have checked out on the season.

The season has not gone anywhere close to plan, and the Frogs need to win two of their next three games, which are Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma, to be bowl-eligible. While it may be possible, it may be more valuable to get younger players some experience this season to prepare for next year. The season can avoid complete disaster by beating a struggling Baylor team, but if the Horned Frogs lose at home to the Bears, the fan base might revolt.
