Assistant Coaching Changes Announced For TCU Track & Field, Swimming & Diving

Before the fall sports season, two TCU teams changed their coaching staffs. The Swimming & Diving team promoted one coach, while the Track & Field team added a new assistant coach. Both announcements were made earlier this month.

Alice McCall was promoted to associate coach for the Swimming & Diving team. Since 2021, she has been the assistant head coach and men's recruiting coordinator. In her first year as a Horned Frog, she led the swimming and diving program to historic marks, including the men's program finishing as the runner-up in the Big 12 Conference. She was instrumental in leading the team back to a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships last season. Alec Hubbard broke the school record on the platform with a 391.05, finishing less than two points from the gold medal.

"I am thrilled at the chance to help James lead this program into the new Big 12 era," McCall said. "There are many new avenues and opportunities coming our way; to help navigate these is exciting. As I step into this new role, I hope to be able to amplify the voice of our program, department, and community in making an impact in our student-athletes' lives in the coming years. I'm excited for this upcoming season as we welcome 23 newcomers to our program. The strength of our team is promising as we continue to pursue the Big 12 and NCAA stage. Thank you to (head coach) James Winchester for his unwavering trust in this program and allowing me to help execute his vision."

On the Track & Field team, Terry Hughes was announced as a new assistant coach. He will serve as the throws coach for TCU.

"I am excited to add Terry Hughes to my coaching staff," Director of Track and Field Khadevis Robinson said. "Terry brings experience both as an athlete and as a coach. Terry was a top-level athlete while at LSU, and he has some great success coaching at the University of Louisiana. Terry is excited to come to TCU and start building the throws program. He is familiar with the Texas and Louisiana area and looks to build a strong foundation here at TCU."

At Louisiana, Hughes served as an assistant coach for five seasons, where he was responsible for coaching all throwing events and assisted in operations and logistics. During the 2022-23 season, Hughes guided Maria Bienvenu to Second Team All-American honors in the javelin (169' 3") for the second time in her career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bienvenu, the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Champion in the javelin, was one of four Ragin Cajuns to place in the top six in the javelin at the outdoor conference championships.

While at Louisiana, Hughes coached four Sun Belt Conference Champions. Additionally, Hughes' throwers have claimed three school records and 25 spots on Louisiana's All-Time Records List. Twenty-six Ragin Cajun student-athletes have garnered All-Sun Belt Conference honors.

Before serving as an assistant coach, Hughes was a volunteer track and field coach at LSU, assisting the throwers with daily field training. He also played a major role in recruiting, operations, logistics, and scheduling.

Hughes competed in the indoor weight throw and discus, as well as the hammer and javelin throws, while competing as a four-year member (2012-16) of LSU's track and field team. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in his final season as a Tiger in the javelin.
