The Division 1 Men’s ITA Collegiate Tennis National Preseason rankings were announced on Tuesday before the start of the fall season. TCU topped the nation with eight preseason rankings, five for singles and three for doubles. Six players accounted for the eight rankings.

TCU is one of three schools, including Texas and Virginia, with five ranked singles players. All five of TCU’s singles honorees were part of the 2022-23 squad. TCU was the only school nationwide to have all three of its projected doubles teams receive a preseason ranking.

TCU Men's Tennis - Preseason ITA Rankings

Jake Fearnley

Senior; Edinburgh, Scotland

  • Singles - #7
  • Doubles - #17 (Partner – Jack Pinnington)

Fearnley, a fifth-year senior, was tabbed the nation's No. 7 singles player. The ranking is a career-high for Fearnley, who ascended to No. 8 in the ITA singles rankings in November. Fearnley produced a team-leading 26-10 singles record last season, including an 11-2 mark in fall invitationals.

Fearnley and Pinnington are expected to compete as TCU's No. 1 or No. 2 doubles team this spring, and the ITA took notice, ranking the Brits 17th. Fearnley and Pinnington rolled to two NCAA Regionals wins in May in their first doubles duals together.

Jack Pinnington

Sophomore; Ashtead, England

  • Singles - #26
  • Doubles - #17 (Partner – Jake Fearnley)

Pinnington concluded the 2022-23 season at No. 53. The No. 26 ranking is a career-high for the reigning ITA Texas Region Rookie of the Year. He went 8-4 in duals in his freshman campaign.

Sebastian Gorzny

Sophomore; Austin, Texas

  • Singles - # 43
  • Doubles - # 13 (Partner – Pedro Vives)

Gorzny jumped from No. 84 in the final set of rankings in 2022-23 to a career-best No. 43. The Austin native was nearly untouchable last season. He finished his first year in Fort Worth with a 21-3 mark in singles play and notched a team-leading 17 singles victories in duals on his way to becoming the Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

Gorzny and Vives claimed the No. 13 doubles ranking, their highest ever. The duo led TCU with 20 doubles victories in 2022-23 and were the only Horned Frog pair to line up alongside one another in every match.

Pedro Vives

Junior; Palma de Mallorca, Spain

  • Singles - # 82
  • Doubles - # 13 (Partner – Sebastian Gorzny)

Vives appears primed for a breakout fall. He boasts a team-high universal tennis rating (UTR) of 13.90 on the heels of an impressive summer on tour. Vives captured two doubles titles and advanced to the quarterfinals or beyond in nine tournaments from June to July.

Lui Maxted

Junior; Worthing, England

  • Singles - # 123
  • Doubles - # 38 (Partner – Duncan Chan)

Maxted was ultra-reliable out of the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights for TCU last spring. He went 11-1 in duals and did not suffer a defeat until TCU's season finale in the NCAA semifinals.

Duncan Chan

Freshman; Markham, Ontario, Canada

  • Doubles - # 38 (Partner – Luis Maxted)

Chan is just starting his collegiate career. He achieved a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 75 in January of this year. He had a 12.19 UTR upon arriving at TCU.
