TCU Soccer: Frogs Fend Off Oklahoma State 1-0

A.J. Hennessey’s goal is enough to top the Cowgirls

The Frogs took care of business on Sunday, defeating the visiting Oklahoma State Cowgirls 1-0. A massive match between two Big 12 soccer heavyweights, the Frogs came out on top.

Marking their fifth consecutive victory, the Frogs remain undefeated in conference play, improving to 4-0-1. Sunday, the Frogs held much of the possession in the early stages. Controlling the game through the midfield with Oli Peña and Lauren Memoly, TCU was able to play swiftly from defense to attack.

It didn’t take long for TCU to jump ahead when A.J. Hennessey surged forward and lasered a miraculous right-footed strike into the top corner. Giving Oklahoma State goalkeeper Grace Gordon no chance, Hennessey put the Frogs ahead 1-0 in the 17th minute.

The Frogs continued to pile on the pressure throughout the first half, but were not able to find the back of the net.

Heading into the second half, Oklahoma State showed more of an attacking mindset, getting forward more so than they did in the first 45 minutes.

Despite their efforts, Lauren Kellett and the Frogs kept a clean sheet. For Kellett, she had a quiet day in goal. Only having to make two saves, it was a solid performance by her and her back line.

With this victory, the Frogs will look to make it six in a row when they host the Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
