TCU Soccer: Frogs Make a Second-half Comeback to Top Purdue

Brian and Hennessey find the net in Thursday’s win

The Horned Frogs picked up their second-straight victory after a second-half comeback against the Boilermakers. TCU beat Purdue 2-1.

No. 25 TCU began the match as dominant as ever, holding possession of the ball for the entirety of the first seven minutes. Throughout the half, the Frogs threatened the Purdue defense but were unable to cash in. On the defensive side of the ball, the Frogs allowed six shots, with Lauren Kellett making a save.

Coming out of the half, the Boilermakers didn’t waste any time as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. Megan Hutchinson assisted Lauren Omholt for her second goal of the season.

Despite falling behind early in the second half, the Frogs responded. Gracie Brian took matters into her own hands and surged down the field before lacing a right-footed shot past the dive of Charlotte Cyr. Scoring her second goal of the season, Brian now moves into 3rd all-time in program goals with 28.

Her 67th-minute goal was followed by a game-winner from winger AJ Hennessey. Dribbling on the left flank, Hennessey surged infield before launching a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar before nestling in the back of the net.

The Horned Frogs have now won two consecutive matches and will look to continue their winning ways on their road trip. Up next, TCU will face the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, September 10, in Indianapolis, IN.
