TCU Soccer: Seminoles top the Frogs 2-0

No. 6 Florida State took all three points in their 2-0 victory on Sunday. It was a quiet half for both sides, who each posted four shots in the first half. With the attacking arsenal of the Seminoles, the Horned Frogs were called upon to hold their ground on defense.
Goalkeeper Lauren Kellett came up with a massive save in the 17th minute to keep the match level.
Heading into halftime scoreless, Florida State looked to take advantage of a golden opportunity in the final 45 minutes. The Seminoles broke through in the 71st minute courtesy of a tremendous effort from Taylor Huff.

Assisted by Lily Farkas, Huff surged from within her defensive half and lasered a left-footed shot past the dive of Kellett. For Huff it marked her second goal of the season after bagging the game-winning strike against Texas A&M on Thursday. To the contrary it was the first goal the Frogs conceded this season, following a shutout against SMU.
Just three minutes later, the Seminoles struck again. This time Onyi Echegini got her name on the scoring sheet to double Florida State’s advantage. Attacking on the left flank, Farkas whipped in a cross to the back post, where Echegini calmly controlled the ball and slotted it past Kellett.

The two goals were enough for the Seminoles to take all three points away from home. Florida State now improves to 2-0 on the season and extend their non-conference unbeaten streak to 17 games.
While its head in hands for Eric Bell and the Horned Frogs, they will have a week to assess the loss and prepare for Penn State. The Nittany Lions have started their 2023 season on the front foot after a goalless draw to No. 2 North Carolina and a 8-0 thrashing of West Chester on Sunday. Kickoff against Penn State is August 27 at noon at University Park, PA.
