In the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament, the 3rd-seed TCU Horned Frogs traveled to Austin to take on 6th-seed UCF. The Frogs were eliminated with a 2-3 loss to the Knights.

It was a quick start for the Frogs who got out to an early lead courtesy of Gracie Brian. With Seven Castain in possession, she threaded a through ball into the feet of Brian who steered it past Caroline DeLisle to go ahead 1-0 in the 6th minute.

While the Frogs kept their lead into the second half, the Knights answered back in the 53rd minute. Unable to clear the ball, Mia Asenjo took advantage of the opportunity and curled a right-footed shot past a diving Lauren Kellett to knot it at one a-piece. The Knights used their momentum in the second half to go on and take the lead with a goal from Dayana Martin in the 66th minute.

The Frogs were stunned in the second half but clawed their way back thanks to a goal from Maddie Mooney, her first goal of the season and her first for TCU. Winger Bella Diorio put in a tremendous cross into the box where it was headed down by Brian to the feet of Mooney.

Despite drawing level, UCF had the final say when they tapped home the dagger in the 82nd. A cross to the back post got past Mooney and fell to the feet of Chloe Netzel who slid the ball through Kellett’s legs to take a 3-2 lead.

For the Frogs, it’s an incredibly disappointing end to the Big 12 Tournament. The team will now have to wait to see its fate for the NCAA Tournament.
