TCU Volleyball Sweeps Fight in the Fort

The Horned Frogs lost just two sets all weekend highlighted by a school record broken by Melanie Parra.

It was a flat-out dominant weekend for the TCU Horned Frogs women's volleyball team as they picked up wins over Hawaii, Florida State, and Western Carolina. It was the first weekend at home for the Frogs, and they were in rhythm the whole way.

After a set one win for Hawaii, the Frogs rolled the rest of the way. Melanie Parra recorded 27 kills, and Brianna Green posted ten blocks for a second consecutive game. TCU trailed 24-21 in the second set, but two kills and two service errors gave the Horned Frogs the lead.

It was the first win against Hawaii in program history. The 27 kills at the time were a career-best for Parra, but she was able to top that on Friday. In a 3-1 win over Florida State, Parra recorded an astonishing 34 kills, the most in a four-set match in TCU history. The 34 kills also set a new high by a Division 1 player this season in four sets.

Parra took complete control in the fourth set, where she recorded 13 kills, including the match-winning kill. It was a game of new season highs for TCU. Riley Buckley set up her teammates with a season-high 49 assists. Audrey Nalls had 14 digs. It was also the first program win against the Seminoles.

Things continued to roll for this squad on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep over Western Carolina. The defense continued to shine, holding the Catamounts to a .079 hitting percentage in the first set. They got out to a lead in the third set, but some errors and a fury of kills by Jalyn Gibson closed things out.

TCU has now won five consecutive matches, improving their record to 7-4 and closing out non-conference play. This team is rolling right now and is building confidence. They are dynamic and can beat you in a variety of ways. The Frogs will begin conference play with a matchup against Kansas State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Manhattan.
