TCU Women's Golf Finishes 8th at Sam Golden Invitational

The TCU Women's golf team finishes 8th at Oakmont shooting a -9 tournament score.

The Frogs had a great first tournament of the season, shooting a 9-under after the two-day Sam Golden Invitational held this week in Corinth, Texas.

The Frogs saved their best for last in the final round of play. The Horned Frogs turned in an 8-under final-round score. This was even with not ideal conditions, such as a wet course and wind. After shooting that final-round score, TCU jumped two spots in the team tables to place eighth out of 12 teams. They finished ahead of BYU, Charlotte, Kennesaw State, and Tulane.

“Proud of our grit and competitive fire today. We will come back and work hard to be totally ready for our next one.”

- Coach Angie Ravaioli Larkin said this about their performance,

TCU finished the 54-hole tournament at -9. Three Horned Frogs finished under par overall.

“I was so proud of the way this group came out and showed who they are as a team. I think this round will propel us into the next event ready and prepared!”

- Assistant coach Kendall Ahrens afer her first tournament as a coach at TCU

Sofia Barroso Sa was the Frogs' top performer. She carded five birdies on Tuesday to post a 7-under tournament score. This stellar performance allowed her to tie for 13th. Barroso Sa also beat two personal records over the span of the two-day stay in Corinth. She set a new career best for her low 54-hole score, 209, while tying her low 18-hole score, 68.

Freshman Sofie Dimitrova absolutely stood out in the final round while celebrating her 20th birthday. Dimitrova delivered TCU's lowest score of the day, carding a 67. The young Czech Republic national team member carded a career-high seven birdies and set a new personal best low 18 score. Dimitrova shot up the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 22nd.

Lois Lau continued her consistency through her final 18 holes. Lau, TCU's senior captain, began the final day at three under and added an eagle and three birdies to her score to finish the tournament tied for 35th place at 4-under.

Junior Meagan Winans also had a solid first tournament with the Frogs. She earned two birdies of her own on the final day, finishing off on an impressive tournament debut for the Horned Frogs. Winans transferred to TCU in July from Oklahoma; she tied for 52nd place.

Sophomore Sheridan Clancy shot a 2-over final round with one birdie. She finished the tournament tied for 62nd place.

The Horned Frogs played well. They fought hard against some of the top golf programs in the nation. It was a really impressive first tournament of the season.

The Horned Frogs will head up to Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday, September 23, as they head to the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.
