Mem’ries Sweet: Part Three - 2,000 Stories And We’ve Only Just Begun

In the last of three parts, our writers reflect as KillerFrogs|FanNation crossed the 2,000th article milestone last week.

It’s been a journey! Last week, our KillerFrogs|FanNation site crossed a milestone – we have now produced over 2,000 pieces of content highlighting TCU sports. We launched the site in September 2021. We started with a team of three, which has now grown to an outstanding group of 15 writers.

As the milestone approached, I asked each of our writers to share the highlights of their time with KillerFrogs, whether it be a favorite article they wrote, a favorite article someone else on the team wrote, an interview they did, an opportunity or event they got to cover, or just a fond memory.

Part Three – KillerFrogs|FanNation Highlights

Nick Howard

Joined the team – August 2021

Nick was one of the first to join our team. He played college basketball, so we were excited to have him and his knowledge join us. Nick instantly developed relationships with both the men’s and women's basketball programs. He has two favorite articles that he wrote. The first, “Blood, Sweat, and Tears,” was after TCU was robbed of advancing to their first-ever Sweet Sixteen appearance after losing to Arizona. Another was an interview he and Tyler did with women’s basketball player Lauren Heard. And we also still laugh when we all gather at Railhead for the Jamie Dixon radio show. Nick tried to shake Coach’s hand, and Dixon hysterically reacted and refused to shake Nick’s hand. It was as if Nick had grown a third eye or something.

Tyler Brown

Joined the team – November 2021

To know our self-proclaimed Sports Ignoramus is to love him. Tyler admits he knows nothing about sports, but he’s learned a lot in his year+ with the team. He knows more about sports than he realizes. He said one highlight was attending baseball games last year and getting to know the KillerFrogs team. But the one highlight he insisted on including in this story was his article “The Undefeated.” His letter was written to Max Duggan in the hours after the Big 12 Championship. Tyler’s words and emotions were eloquently stated, and every Horned Frog could read that and know he captured their thoughts. Here’s Tyler’s reflection on it “the experience of it, begging you (Barry) to stay awake just a little while longer and your joy you did—and, most importantly, the reaction of the players who read it; I’m thinking particularly of Palmer Nix, Damonic Williams, Jordan Sandy, Easton Black, Johnny Hodges, among others,”

Ian Napetian

Joined the team – July 2022

Ian is another of our students and is the one Nate introduced us to over the summer. He had two highlights to share.

“First is meeting you and Ryann: You and Ryann have been nothing but welcoming to me since I joined KF. I couldn’t have asked for better bosses to work for and work alongside. You both have given me a platform for which I can publish my work to continue grinding toward my dream of being a journalist and broadcaster in the sports industry.”

His next highlight is attending TCU’s Fiesta Bowl and National Championship Game. “As a sophomore in college, I never would have thought that I would get the opportunity to cover such an event. The people I met, the people I worked with, and the experience of covering such a major event was priceless. Working long days, editing for hours, and most important, having fun made it so wonderful.”

Tori Couch

Joined the team – August 2022

Tori is a TCU alum who works on campus in the Honors College. She has been a great addition to the team. Her knowledge of football and basketball is vast. She launched a weekly video, “Tori’s Thoughts,” before each football game. One of my favorites was before the OSU game when she recruited her husband Joey, an OSU alum, as her guest. But that wasn’t her only guest, as one of our own would also join her. “I really enjoyed doing the KillerMinute podcasts with Brett. Getting to talk about college football, especially TCU, is something I could do for hours and hours,” she said. “Covering TCU's Fiesta Bowl win was an incredible experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect that to happen. The KF staff also makes this a fun experience. Everyone is very supportive, and the debates in the group chat are extremely entertaining!”

Zion Trammel

Joined the team –August 2022

Zion is another of the TCU students. Though he’s from the Bay Area, he grew up a fan of the Dallas/Fort Worth area professional teams and as a Texas Longhorns fan. Before the TCU/Texas game in November, he wrote a story about growing up a Longhorns fan. This article, “Growing up a Longhorns Fan,” was one of his favorites. Zion also had the task of writing recap articles after each football game. Not a bad assignment, given the historic run of the team. Another of his favorite articles was the one he wrote after the Fiesta Bowl win over Michigan. Our team got together before the holidays, and Zion said, “I think my favorite experience thus far with everyone was the white elephant exchange.” It was a TCU-themed exchange, so he had good reason to enjoy it.
