Former Vols QB Jarrett Guarantano Getting Professional Shot

Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Jarrett Guarantano will start in the UFL on Sunday afternoon.

Some surprising news has recently emerged around the name of a former quarterback from the Tennessee Volunteers. Jarrett Guarantano has received some positive news about his playing career. Guarantano will start for the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL (United Football League), which will take place this spring, combining the USFL and the XFL. The Roughnecks take on the Memphis Showboats on Sunday.

The Roughnecks have many talented players on their team, including former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster and former Volunteers running back Tiyon Evans. Here's how you can watch the game.

  • Gameday: Sunday March 31st, 2024
  • Game Time: 3:00 pm ET
  • Where: Rice Stadium
  • Watch: ESPN

This is the first game of the season, so it is very exciting for Guarantano to be handed the keys to this offense. According to FanNation’s UFL site, coach Curtis Johnson spoke with the media about the decision.

“I think it was a great competition all camp long. We thought one day it was Nolan (Henderson), one day it was Jarrett, and one day it was Reid [Sinnett]. But in the end, I think the body of work that Jarrett put forth, I think he deserves to start, and whoever is the backup, we are going to play both of them. You’ll see them in the first game, second quarter, third series, or something like that. But man, I thought Jarrett played extremely well."

He was signed in December. Before transferring, JG spent four years at Tennessee, during which time he produced 6,174 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.
