Georgia OC Leaves For NFL, Bulldogs Hire New Play Caller

Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken has accepted an assistant role with the Baltimore Ravens, leaving the Bulldogs with a new play caller in 2023.

Life has been pretty good for the Georgia Bulldogs. They are coming off their second consecutive national championship and have lost one game in two seasons. UGA is quickly becoming the model for a modern powerhouse, but another challenge has been thrown their way.

Offensive coordinator Todd Monken has left the program and accepted the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator job. Monken joins former NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson in a contract season; this marks Monken's second AFC North stint, as he previously served as the Cleveland Browns' offensive coordinator.

Monken piloted one of college football's best offenses in 2022. Quarterback Stetson Bennett led the SEC in passing yards and finished his career as a Heisman finalist after everything clicked in his third season in Monken's system. They had a plethora of weapons to pick from, including all-world tight ends Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington.

Georgia wasted no time in finding their next play caller. Head coach Kirby Smart has promoted offensive assistant Mike Bobo; Bobo previously served as Colorado State's head coach, South Carolina's offensive coordinator, and Auburn's offensive coordinator.

He has spent a lot of time with the Bulldogs and was expected to become the heir apparent to Monken. Monken has been eyeing a return to the NFL for seasons, and it happens when his starting quarterback moves on to the professional level. While things in Athens will likely remain the same, it is a noteworthy storyline heading into next season.
