Multiple Heavyweight Series Highlight Exciting Week in SEC Play

Last weekend in the SEC was highlighted by multiple thrilling rivalries going down on the diamond. It was an exciting weekend for several teams, with seven of the eight series resulting in a sweep. The lone exception was the LSU Tigers vs. No. 24 Kentucky Wildcats, which LSU won.
One of those sweeps, of course, saw the No. 2 Texas Longhorns send the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners packing, taking the first game in run-rule fashion followed by two straight walk-off wins. Now, they find themselves sitting atop the SEC at 7-2 alongside the No. 4 Mississippi State Bulldogs and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
And speaking of which, those two squads will square off on the diamond this week in what is set to be another round of thrilling contests. It won't be the only exciting series, either, with several teams looking to maintain momentum while others look to get themselves back in the title race.

Three can't-miss series in the SEC this week
No. 4 Mississippi State Bulldogs (25-4, 7-2) vs. No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (24-6,7-2)
It wouldn't be a week in the SEC without one series being a true heavyweight bout. This time it comes in the form of another top-five showdown, with two of the three teams currently tied for first in the conference standings ready to battle it out.
Both teams swept their respective conference series last weekend. Georgia took care of business against the South Carolina Gamecocks while Mississippi State easily dispatched their rivals, the Ole Miss Rebels.
Especially crucial is the fact that both teams are 7-2 in the SEC. A series win here sees the winner move to at least 9-3 at minimum, giving them an inside track at a potential conference title.
No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners (20-8, 4-5) vs. No. 16 Alabama Crimson Tide (23-7, 6-3)
These two squads both faced their bitter rivals during the third weekend of conference play last weekend. That would be the only similarity between the two, though, as the Sooners were swept on the road by the Longhorns while the Crimson Tide took all three games against Auburn.
As a result, their impending series against each other has the potential to be a momentum builder for both. For the Sooners, bouncing back from a disappointing showing against Texas against the Crimson Tide could further cement their status as a contender for the conference crown.
Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide are currently in the thick of it when it comes to said conference championship. If they can maintain their momentum and take at least one game on the road, then they'll keep themselves in the hunt and show they're here to stay this season.
No. 18 Auburn Tigers (20-8, 4-5) vs. No. 17 Arkansas Razorbacks (19-11, 4-5)
No, this isn't the series featuring the two highest ranked teams on the docket this week. However, it might just have the biggest implications for each squad based on who emerges from it with a series victory in hand.
Both the Tigers and Razorbacks come into their clash reeling. They were swept by the Crimson Tide and Florida Gators, respectively, last weekend and plummeted down the rankings as a result. Making matters worse, they also dropped their midweek games this week, too.
A series loss will not be the end of the world for either team. That being said, a series win? It'll get the winner back on track in conference play, while the loser will have a tougher uphill battle to overcome to compete for the conference title.
