QB Tier Rankings: Where Does Longhorns' Quinn Ewers Land?

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw nine touchdowns in his first six games of 2022 before throwing two in the final four.

Heading into the 2023 season, expectations on the Forty Acres are pretty high, and it starts with a rebound of quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Ewers, who had a lot of weight on his shoulders to perform after being the No. 1 recruit in 2021, threw for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 58 percent of his passes. The Athletic's Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel developed a list of FBS quarterbacks and what tiers they'd fit into. They ranked Ewers as one of 13 signal-callers in the fifth tier.

"The common theme here is big names who have been inconsistent," Mandel wrote. "I’m interested to see whether Ewers can move up a few tiers with a big 2023 campaign."

Other quarterbacks listed alongside Ewers in tier five are Kansas State's Will Howard, Tennessee's Joe Milton, South Carolina's Spencer Rattler, Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart, Arizona's Jayden de Laura, Duke's Riley Leonard, Mississippi State's Will Rogers, BYU's Kedon Slovis, Auburn's Payton Thorne, Oregon State's D.J. Uiagalelei, Miami's Tyler Van Dyke and Washington State's Cam Ward.

Ewers enters a potential Heisman Trophy season and with a trio of weapons in Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and Ja'Tavion Sanders among others around him, he should be in for a bounce-back season in Austin.
