Longhorns Steve Sarkisian Breaks Down Deep WR Room, 'Phenomenal' Xavier Worthy

Texas returns its big-three receiving corps last year in Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Ja'Tavion Sanders that accounted for 66.1, 64.5 and 68.1 percent of the Longhorns' receptions, yards and receiving touchdowns in 2022.

Looking up and down the Texas Longhorns' offensive depth chart, head coach Steve Sarkisian has a lot to be excited about in Austin for the 2023 season.

With the lone question mark being at the running back position, it'll be interesting to see if Texas becomes an overwhelming pass-happy offense. Sarkisian joined ESPN analyst Greg McElroy on "Always College Football" to break down the pass-catching options the Longhorns will have at their disposal next season.

"What I've seen out of Xavier Worthy has been phenomenal this offseason," Sarkisian said. "He's the most engaged I've seen him be since he's been here, and he's been really good for the first two years. I think the addition of AD Mitchell has been very helpful. Jordan Whittington's leadership, he's kind of assumed almost that Roschon Johnson role on our team. And getting Isaiah Neyor back. This guy was a projected starter for us a year ago coming from Wyoming. Gets injured, misses the year and he's kind of been forgotten. And then I think J.T. Sanders is just a budding star."

With quarterback Quinn Ewers delivering the ball, Sarkisian said the wealth Texas has at receiver has to put him "at ease."

"He knows he's got capable people to catch the ball and go make plays for him," Sarkisian said.

Texas didn't have an overwhelming No. 1 receiver last season, as the majority of catches were distributed between Worthy, Sanders and Whittington who had 60, 54 and 50 receptions, respectively.

Worthy, a reigning Second Team All-Big 12 selection in 2022, has the potential to have a dark-horse Heisman Trophy campaign this season.
