Prior to his arrival in the SEC, Hudson spent two seasons under Sarkisian at USC. He initially was hired by Kiffin before his fired in 2013 and remained on staff until the end of the 2016 season as a defensive assistant.

Hudson also had coached at Florida Atlantic (2017-2018), Illinois (2019-2020) and Western Kentucky (2021-2023).

Texas has been planning to add another member to the defensive coaching staff. After the Longhorns hired former Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen, they were expected to add Duane Akina as the new secondary coach. Akina opted to remain at Arizona upon the change from Jedd Fisch to Brent Brennan to take over Nansen's old position as the Wildcats' defensive coordinator.

Last season, Texas finished 49th nationally in pass efficiency defense, 116th in yards per contest, and 10th in turnovers. The Longhorns return three full-time starters, including safety Michael Taffee, corner Terrance Brooks and nickel defender Jahdae Barron.

The Longhorns, who enter a new era of football as members of the SEC, kickstart their season at home against Colorado State on Aug. 31.
