UCLA Football: DeShaun Foster Lists Positions He's Targeting in Transfer Portal

Foster is quite candid with reporters after practice Saturday...

The job of a College Football coach at the D1 level never seems to end.

There's a constant effort to improve one's roster in any way possible -- whether through development, high school recruiting, junior college recruiting, or the transfer portal.

UCLA held another spring practice Saturday morning. Speaking with reporters after the session, head coach DeShaun Foster touched on several topics.

One of the topics specifically was that of the upcoming transfer portal. UCLA's roster is not a finished product at this given time. Depth at some positions is a bit shaky. Additionally, there are a few 'projected' starters who are not Big Ten-level athletes from a talent standpoint.

Unlike Chip Kelly, who kept everything under wraps to an objectively strange level, Foster was transparent and candid with which spots the Bruins will look to target over the next few weeks.

“I have six positions I want to address,” Foster said Saturday, “and then best available [talent] after that.”

The mention of needing tight end help may have just intensified after the injury to Hudson Habermehl during Saturday's practice. While there's no report yet on the injury, those in attendance reportedly felt as if it could potentially be a season-ending one.

When factoring in the loss of last year's starter Carsen Ryan to Utah via the portal, UCLA is down to two healthy scholarship tight ends in Moliki Matavao and Jack Pedersen.

The offensive line could use a real boost in both talent and numbers -- particularly at the tackle spots. The secondary is on the young side, and as such could also use an injection of talent.

We could apply that same thought process to the running backs, as there are not a whole lot of proven guys beyond TJ Harden and Keegan Jones.
