In this story:

UCLA head coach Chip Kelly was understandably frustrated after the loss to Utah this weekend. The Bruins had chances to win the game but couldn’t simply take advantage of their opportunities.

But, even in defeat, the team did put themselves in a position to win the game. They lost by a score of 14-7 on the road in a hostile environment, with a true freshman under center. It was always going to be tough for them to win this game unless they executed everything flawlessly.

So, when Kelly was asked after the game about a potential quarterback change, he immediately shot the idea down. He called it a learning experience for his young quarterback.

“Kelly was asked during the postgame press conference whether he considered switching to a different quarterback during the game. “No,” Kelly said quickly before moving on to the next question.”

While Dante Moore didn’t play his best game, and he made some costly mistakes, this was his first real test against a good team. It wasn’t his fault that the Bruins didn’t win the game, and Kelly acknowledged that after the fact.

“I think the total offense was an issue so we need to get that sorted out at every level,” Coach Chip Kelly said. “I don’t think it falls on one person.”

The UCLA offense was stifled all game long. Utah has one of the better defenses in the country, and it was on full display Saturday.

“We have the bye week coming up, so we will be watching a lot of film,” Moore said as he reflected on starting the season with three straight wins before the loss. “We aren’t just taking this as a loss but as a learning point.”

Per The OC Register

UCLA can take this game and learn from it as they head into their bye week. They need to get better if they want to reach their goals this season. As they prepare to welcome Washington State into their building after the bye, the Bruins are feeling hopeful, but disappointed in their performance this past weekend.
