UCLA Football: Chip Kelly Concedes That Bruins Defense Has Entered Elite Territory

In this story:
After a strong 28-16 win over the Colorado Buffalos last weekend, the UCLA Bruins are feeling good about themselves. While it hasn't been a perfect season, they are playing well, and have a favorable schedule down the stretch of the year.
The defense has become the identity of this Bruins team, and it has been incredible to see. Defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn has come in and turned this unit completely around. And they showed out once again last weekend, stifling the Colorado offense the entire game.
UCLA head coach Chip Kelly praised his defense for their effort against the Buffalos this past weekend. It has been the calling card for this team all year long, and they showed up once again. He was asked if he believed that his defense was in the elite category.
“I think you just answered the question," Kelly said. "That’s a hell of a job by you. Outstanding – you asked and answered the same question. So I’d say, what you said, ditto.”

The Bruins pass rush made life tough on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders all game, as they had him scrambling for dear life throughout. UCLA racked up seven sacks on the day, and it was another solid showing for this much-improved defense.
"I thought our defense was outstanding," Kelly reflected. "We knew what a passing attack they had and how dynamic they were, not only at quarterback but at receiver. For our guys to be able to contain Shedeur [Sanders] like that, and no one really has, that's a credit to them. But I also want to give credit to Shedeur. He's a tough kid. I mean, he got hit and he kept balling, so it was a good battle. We are glad, we are fortunate that we came out on top."

Each week, the team is finding different ways to win games, but the defense is always at the forefront. It has helped them become a real problem in the Pac-12, and they plan to stay that way for the rest of the season.
