More and more, we are seeing just how much versatile guards that can score at will are thriving at the college level. A number of elite guards were selected in the lottery during the 2023 NBA Draft after showcasing their talents during their respective collegiate seasons. It's great to see how their skillsets are able to set them apart from the main pack and your UCLA Bruins have had a number of elite scorers in their backcourt over the years.

However, when looking ahead to their 2025 recruiting class, they already have some great options on their hands such as Trey McKenney, a 6'4 guard that has been turning heads during his recent EYBL season with The Family. He has shown the ability to take on multiple defenders from the perimeter while also attacking the rim at will.

McKenney would be joining a system at UCLA that would allow to develop all parts of his game outside of just scoring and he has confirmed that he is giving the Bruins a hard look as he enters his junior season of high school. He recently spoke to experts On3 and broke down what he likes about the university.

“They have a free-flowing offense, and he lets his guards go, gives them a lot of freedom. Seeing what I could do there, them showing me how I can step in and play, and their vision for me to be a big asset to the team is good. And it’s in California, I mean, who doesn’t want to go out there?”

McKenney confirmed he would like to visit UCLA pretty soon and hopefully the interest is strong on both ends. He still has a lot of basketball to be played at his current level but the Bruins are always looking for their next point guard!
