Why Tar Heels Present Perfect Trap Game For No. 1 Miami

In this story:
It's been a surreal season for the North Carolina Tar Heels with ups and downs, especially last week's disappointment against the Syracuse Orange in overtime. The program has made strides in key areas and overall talent disparity, but still has a way to go before it should be considered a contender in the ACC.
Head coach Bill Belichick earned two signature wins against a ranked Pittsburgh team and Duke. Now, he has a chance to shock the college football world as the No. 1-ranked Miami Hurricanes travel to Chapel Hill for a primetime showdown on national television. In many ways, this is a big trap game for the Hurricanes, one that Belichick's team fell for last weekend.

Miami Presents Tar Heels a Challenge They Have Never Faced
Miami is undefeated for a reason, bolstering a stout roster with one of college football's best quarterbacks in Darian Mensah, who leads the country in completion percentage (81.4%), and a Heisman Trophy favorite in wide receiver Malachi Toney, whose numbers (66 catches, 954 yards, 11 touchdowns) are top-three in each of those statistical categories.
The Hurricanes offense leads the country in yards per game (551.9), is fourth in passing yards per game (340.7), and is the highest-scoring offense in the land (49.0 per game). They also have the best run defense in college football, allowing just 60 yards per game.

There are All-ACC and All-American talents on both sides of the ball, and future NFL talents who are ready to declare or are a year away. No. 5 Notre Dame was just as talented and maybe even better than the Hurricanes (we'll find out in a couple of weeks). North Carolina has an idea of what they're getting into, considering they only lost by 11 to the Fighting Irish nearly a month ago.
Yet, Miami is ranked No. 1 for a reason, dominating everyone in their path so far, except for a weird Florida State team. It seems insurmountable, but the Tar Heels like a fight, and they may give it to them against the Hurricanes.
Tar Heels Are Perfect Trap Game For 'Canes

Regardless of what happened against Syracuse, I still believe this is a well-coached North Carolina team that doesn't have the requisite pieces to win consistently at this level, and they're likely a year away from contention. It helps to have a future Hall of Fame head coach who can put his defense in positions to succeed and an offense with explosive playmakers despite their quarterback play.
North Carolina is exactly the team Miami doesn't want to play at this point in the season, facing an opponent ticked off from a letdown game against Syracuse, with one eye on the Fighting Irish in South Bend next week. Again, this is a nationally televised game, and the whole world will be watching if the Hurricanes can overcome a potential trap game in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels could pull off arguably one of their biggest wins in program history and continue a five-game winning streak against the Hurricanes, which includes seven of their last nine matchups. College football has been chaotic beyond belief this season, and Belichick's Tar Heels could make Miami their next victim of the anarchy.
