USC Women's Basketball Signs 2 Elite Hoopers for 2024-25 Season

The two-time national champions officially add some firepower

USC women's basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb is ecstatic. Entering her third season as head coach, Gottlieb has punched into relevance USC's women's hoop program. That trend now looks to be in good shape to continue as USC announced the official signing of two elite 2024 recruits.

Long Island Lutheran (Long Island, NY) point guard Kayleigh Heckel and Etiwanda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) wing Kennedy Smith both signed their national letters of intent to play for USC this week. To give you an idea of their talent, Heckel scored over 2,000 points during her time at Long Island Lutheran and was named the MaxPreps New York Player of the Year during her junior season. Similarly, the 6-foot 1 Smith played a pivotal role in her team's state championship in the most competitive division in the State of California.

Gottlieb had this to say about the local recruit:

"She is a winner. With the ability to play and defend multiple positions, she is going to be an electric player in the Galen Center. Kennedy's decision to stay home will have a lasting impact on our program, and is really significant as we take steps to become a national power in women's basketball."

The 5-foot 9 Heckel committed to USC over Tennessee, Stanford, and Alabama. ESPNW has her ranked as the 29th best recruit in the 2024 class. Smith came in on that same list as 6th best recruit in the 2024 class. These two elite talents join three other commits in USC's 2024 class, including guard Avery Howell, guard Rian Forestier, and forward Laura Williams.

USC WBB is currently ranked 10th in the country, and is off to a hot 3-0 start.
