USC Football: Former MVP Cam Newton Comments On Caleb Williams' NFL Future

Former NFL MVP and Auburn legend Cam Newton had some words of wisdom for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, advising the Heisman Trophy winner to "walk light as possible".

Cam Newton knows a thing or two about the pathway that star USC quarterback Caleb Williams will inevitably be heading down. The former first-team All-Pro Carolina Panthers gunslinger implored the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to "walk as light as possible" regarding a narrative/rumor circulating around the NFL.

The narrative is that Caleb Williams only wants to play for specific teams in the NFL. Whether or not that narrative has any validity is an entirely different conversation, but Cam Newton thought it was prevalent enough for him to address it on his YouTube channel.

Here are some notable things Newton said in the YouTube short he posted on October 10th.

In reference to the team Williams will land on, Newton said, "You don't want to dictate the ramifications too early because this is still the NFL, and you want to walk as light as possible."

Newton continued:

“For me, I feel like, bro, do you. Set the tone early. But while you’re setting that tone, Mr. Caleb, I must admonish you to know this. You gotta perform. If you don’t perform, this ain’t USC. The speed is different, the physicality is different, the preparation is different. Don’t nobody care that you won a Heisman".

Williams is putting together a fantastic encore to his Heisman Trophy performance last season and is pretty much guaranteed to go first overall in the 2024 NFL draft, should he declare.

Some scouts have even declared him the best quarterback prospect since former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck declared for the 2012 NFL draft.
