USC Football: Stanford's Excuses Absent Following Historic Loss to Trojans

In this story:
This weekend, the USC Trojans improved their record to 3-0 on the new year after taking down the Stanford Cardinal in impressive fashion. The Trojans controlled the game from the jump and ended with a score of 56-10.
It was a blowout in classic fashion, and for the second straight week, the Trojans didn’t need to play star quarterback Caleb Williams in the second half of the game. This is a luxury that USC has seen over the first few weeks of the season.
After the game, Stanford head coach Troy Taylor was complimentary of the Trojans while understanding that his squad is nowhere close to USC right now.
"Obviously, we're not at their level right now," new coach Troy Taylor said. "But we will shoot to be there, and we will continue to work at it."

This was the final matchup between the two sides, at least in Pac-12 play. The Trojans will be heading to the Big 10 next season, so the classic rivalry ends with a convincing victory for USC. USC took it to Stanford in the game, making them want to work harder going forward.
"We're a young team, we knew that," Taylor said. "But that doesn't mean we can't be a really good team, so we're going to continue to work, and I can promise you that those guys will not go in the tank. They'll be ready to move on."

The USC defense showed out once again in this one, too. It wasn’t all Williams, so the Trojans can take many positives away from this game.
They now get a week off to enjoy the win and continue to fine-tune things across the board. Their next game will take place on September 23 against Arizona State. It will be their first road game of the season and will be a good test for them early on.
