USC Football: WR Disappointed With Trojans' Dying Season

This season has quickly turned into a nightmare

Entering the 2023 season, the US Trojans were ranked as the No. 6 team in the nation with national championship aspirations. This season was supposed to be the season where they finish the job, win the Pac-12, and make their first-ever college football Playoff; from there, anything can happen.

Things were going well through the first couple of weeks, but as we hit October, this USC team seemed to have regressed instead of progressing. After two straight losses in mid-October to Notre Dame and Utah, that had appeared to close the door on any championship hopes. If those two losses didn't do the trick, two more losses in the last three weeks certainly did.

This season went from 100 to 0 real quick, and star Trojans wide receiver Tahj Washington couldn't help but reminisce on the season that once was.

“It’s tough,” wideout Tahj Washington said, “just living with the ride of what is versus what could have been.”

(Per Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times)

Coming into the 2023 season, the Trojans had the best odds to win the Pac-12 at +180, according to CBS Sports. And, after their second game of the season, USC had the fifth-best odds to hoist the college football playoff trophy at +1200, according to FanDuel at the time.

Things took a turn for the worse as the season progressed. Outside of star quarterback Caleb Williams, the USC Trojans offense seemed to be limited as wide receivers struggled to get open from time to time. As for the defense, it seemed to improve on paper, but with their inability to stop a nosebleed or turn the ball over as they did in 2022, there was no hope on that side of the ball.

These past two seasons will be remembered as a waste, as the Trojans couldn't do anything with a talent like Williams. In all likelihood, he will be heading to the NFL after this season with nothing outside of a Heisman Trophy to show for his college tenure. That's the sad truth, which none of us could have expected.
