The USC Trojans are gearing up for a week 0 matchup against the San José State Spartans, but USC commit Quentin Hale is already making noise under the Friday-night lights. Hale is a four-star wide receiver recruit out of Centennial in Southern California, and in the first game of his senior season, Hale caught seven passes for 159 with two touchdowns.

He connected on multiple long passes with Centennial quarterback Jaden Jefferson, and the highlight of the night was a one-handed catch by Hale for a 40-yard gain.

Quentin Hale Highlights

With USC coach Lincoln Riley leading the program, finding offensive weapons on the recruiting trail has never been a problem, and it appears as though Hale has the potential to be the next great Trojans star. According to 247Sports, Hale is the fourth-highest rated recruit currently committed to Riley and the Trojans.

He won't take the field until 2027 at the earliest for USC, but Hale could be an early impact player given his talent as well as his size. According to MaxPreps, Hale is listed at 6-3, 195 in his senior season of high school.

The Trojans are expected to see contributions from true freshmen receivers like Trent Mosley, Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, and Ethan "Boobie" Feaster in 2026, and Hale could be next in 2027. Nevertheless, USC is refilling the cupboards at wide receiver in every recruiting class.

Hale is the highest-rated receiver committed to USC followed by four-star receiver and top-100 recruit Roye Oliver III, who was a five-star in the class of 2028 before he reclassified into 2027.

USC Trojans' Recruitment of Quentin Hale

The Trojans have targeted a smaller number of recruits in the 2027 class after signing the No. 1-ranked class in 2026 with 35 commitments, but Hale was an early target for USC. Making highlight plays in the first game of his senior season helps explain why, but Hale is also one of the top recruits in the country coming out of Southern California.

He is the No. 50 overall recruit in the class of 2027 and the No. 8 wide receiver prospect, per 247Sports' rankings. In the state of California, Hale is ranked as the No. 7 recruit.

Hale held offers from programs like Oklahoma and Texas, and he even visited the SEC schools before eventually committing to Riley and the Trojans. The local product was a frequent visitor on USC's campus during the spring, and he shut down his recruitment shortly after taking his official visit in May.

“You see all the best of the best in Cali playing out here, staying home,” Hale told USC Trojans on SI's Kendell Hollowell. "They trying to build something with the ‘27 class from Cali.”

USC general manager Chad Bowden shifted the program's recruiting focus more towards local prospects, and the strategy has seemingly resonated with recruits like Hale. The 2026 class was filled with the top prospects in the state like five-star tight end Mark Bowman, four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui, as well as receivers like Mosley and Dixon-Wyatt.

However, the Trojans aren't limiting themselves to only California or only the West Coast. Five-star freshman Luke Wafle committed to USC out of New Jersey, and five-star EDGE Mekai Brown, the Trojans' highest-rated commit in the class of 2027, is a Connecticut recruit.
