Graduations and injuries are facts of life in college athletics, and the Vanderbilt Commodores are no exception to the rule.

Entering the 2019 season, head coach Derek Mason and his staff had the task of finding new starters to replace those who had moved on from a season ago. Injuries then took some players out of the equasion, which forced younger, inexperienced players to have to step into key roles on both sides of the football.

Players such as Dashaun Jerkins, Bredan Harris, Tyler Steen and Elijah McAllister- all redshirt freshmen- have stepped into increased roles and are learning on they fly as they gain experience at the cost of sometimes costly mistakes.

Youth is certainly a factor in some of the current issues facing the Commodores, but that's a small part of the total picture that's cloudy through 6 games this season.

There's no doubt that these young athletes are gaining the best kind of experience will be a positive gowing forward in their careers, but can this team survive the wait.
