Things have not been great for Vanderbilt head football coach Derek Mason in the aftermath of last Saturday's stunning blowout loss to UNLV.

The fallout on social media from former players, alumni and fans was swift, upset and sometimes even brutal as the fanbase used social media to loudly voice their displeasure with not only the latest loss, but where they perceive the direction of the program going.

In his weekly Tuesday press conference, Mason took a moment to share a message with Commodores fans.

“I’m talking to Commodore Nation, I'm talking to Commodore fans. When you coach 18 to 22 year old young men, they're in college but they're trying to figure it out, they may not have all the answers, but here's what I do know," said Mason. " I do know that they represent you. They need your support in this game. You know, they"re not perfect at what they do."

"I’m big enough to take responsibility for the things we don't get done, but what I need you to do is support these young men," continued Mason. "They are you. They are Vanderbilt. You know they walk these halls and they step into these classrooms , ok, (so) they represent the star V just like you represented it in your time here and I'm thankful for who you re and where you are because Commodore Nation is strong."

Mason says he and his team are not phased by the "noise" from those outside the building, though he did acknowledge that he knows what's going on but is focused on "today" and getting himself and his team ready to face Missouri on Saturday when the Tigers visit Vanderbilt Stadium for a 3pm kickoff against the Commodores.
