The holiday season has long since passed but that doesn't mean the University of Washington can't create a wish list for next December. The Huskies recently signed 15 players for 2021 but given the transfer portal and the gift of NCAA eligibility because of the pandemic season, it's nearly impossible to project how many players the UW will sign in the cycle.

Nevertheless, here's a list of 2022 skill players who have shown considerable interest in putting on the purple and gold.

Running Back

With Sean McGrew and Kamari Pleasant leaving after the 2021 season, look for the Huskies to sign two running backs.

  • Gavin Sawchuk, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, Valor Christian HS, Littleton, Colorado. Sawchuk has fielded 27 offers, among them Washington. He's rated a 5-star running back by 247 and his 10-minute highlight tape doesn't disappoint. He's surprisingly powerful to go with blazing speed. The UW will have to go toe-to-toe with the likes of USC, Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama for his services.
  • Djouvensky Schlenbaker 6-2, 210, Squalicum HS, Bellingham, Washington. Born in Haiti, Schlenbaker has grown into a power back with great speed.

Wide Receiver

Washington has gone big signing in Jalen McMillan, Rome Odunze, Puka Nacua, Jabez Tinae, Austin Osborne and Marquis Spiker. All check in at over 6 feet. For 2022, the Huskies have sent out five offers to receivers between 6-2 and 6-4.

  • Germie Bernard, 6-2, 195, Liberty HS, Henderson, Nevada.  Committed to Washington. Bernard outdueled Odunze's team for the Nevada state crown in 2019.  He is one of three Liberty High School teammates committed to Washington.  He most likely will be an SI All-American candidate for the class of 2022, possibly a top 10 receiver, as well.
  • CJ Williams, 6-2, 193, Mater Dei HS, Santa Ana, California. Williams visited Seattle recently and, by all accounts, was happy with his visit. He was able to get in a workout with Washington QB signee Sam Huard.
  • Tobias Merriweather, 6-4, 185, Union HS, Camas, Washington. Merriweather's stock continues to rise with a top performance at FSP's ID Camp weekend and FSP's Alumni Weekend.  He should be one of the top 10 receivers in SI All-American rankings. He speaks with UW receivers coach Junior Adams frequently.

Tight End

Each of the last four years the Huskies have put a tight end onto an NFL roster.  Even so, the Huskies have a very deep tight-end room. At the end of the coming season, the UW will be losing Cade Otton. Given that factor, look for Washington to sign at least two tight ends.

  • Ryan Otton, 6-6, 225, Tumwater HS, Tumwater, Washington. The younger brother to Cade, he's keeping his options open. Expect to see Ryan as a SI All-American candidate, and possibly a SI99 selection with a strong senior campaign. He's giving other schools serious consideration.
  • Chance Bogan, 6-4, 220 pounds, Lincoln HS, Tacoma, Washington. He's committed to Washington. The son of Curtis Bogan, a UW linebacker in the 90s, he's a gifted pass-catcher who is a great blocker.

Quarterback

With a freshman starting at QB and a true freshman it's difficult to project who but here is the a list of some high-priority targets for Washington.  Thus far Lake has sent out 3 offers with the below two are currently uncommitted.

  • Cade Klubnik, 6-3, 180, Westlake HS, Austin, Texas.  Klubnik has nearly 30 offers. He led Westlake to an unbeaten season and now back-to-back 6A Texas state championships. He likes what he's heard from the UW.
  • Maalik Murphy, 6-5, 225, Junipero Serra HS, Gardena, California.  Murphy is one of the top QBs in the country. His high school often feeds the USC and UCLA with some of its top talent. A successful season by the Huskies would go a long way in attracting Murphy.
