WVU Hoops Interested in Another Former Tar Heel

Huggs and company remain busy in the transfer portal.

West Virginia will be linked to several names in the transfer portal in the coming weeks as they look to replace the production of Kedrian Johnson, Erik Stevenson, Emmitt Matthews Jr., and potentially others.

Earlier in the week, WVU reached out to former Norther Carolina forward Dontrez Styles. Now, they're interested in his once teammate at UNC, Puff Johnson, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Johnson appeared in 27 games this season for the Tar Heels and averaged 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 38% from the field, 28% from three, and 66% from the free throw line. Although the numbers aren't eye-popping, much of that can be attributed to the depth that UNC had. Playing in another system should unlock Johnson's true potential which is why so many other schools have expressed interest in him since he entered the portal.

Others that have reached out to him include Arizona State, Butler, Colorado State, Duquesne, Grand Canyon, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, Pitt, Seton Hall, TCU, Tulane, and UC Santa Barbara.

Johnson played his high school ball at Hillside Prep in Phoenix, Arizona but is originally of Moon Township, PA, which is a little over an hour north of Morgantown, just outside of Pittsburgh. Coming out of high school, Johnson was a consensus four-star, top-100 recruit that held offers from the likes of Arizona, Auburn, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Notre Dame, Pitt, TCU, Xavier, and several others.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
