Former WVU Linebacker Charlie Benton Chooses Transfer Destination

The Mountaineers officially lose a member of the linebacking unit.

Earlier this month, West Virginia redshirt senior linebacker Charlie Benton entered the transfer portal after spending three years in the Mountaineer program. 

Tuesday, Benton officially transferred from WVU to UAB, per Matt Zenitz of al.comPrior to his time at West Virginia, Benton played two years at Butler Community College and earned All-KJCCC Second Team Honors as a redshirt freshman totaling 34 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and one interception.

Benton was named a starter for the Mountaineers' 2018 season-opener vs Tennessee in Charlotte but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first half of the game. He made two tackles before going down with the injury but has not recorded any stats since.
