WVU Football Stock Watch: Five Players Trending Up in Fall Camp

The Mountaineers are five practices into fall camp, and while it's a small sample size, some guys are wasting no time making a strong impression on the coaching staff.

There are a bunch of players who are performing well, but I wanted to highlight a handful of them who are making a serious push for playing time or are perhaps separating themselves in a position battle.

WR Cyrus Traugh

The Youngstown State transfer essentially walked on to WVU a year ago and has done nothing but put his head down and work. He earned a few mentions from the coaching staff last season, and that has only increased since the spring. I hesitated to move him up my depth chart until late in the spring when it became pretty clear that he is in the mix. Everything he has done in fall camp to this point has solidified his position as a potential back-end of the rotation guy at wide receiver and is squarely in the conversation in the return game.

C Wes King

King played left guard last season at Wyoming and did so at an extremely high level. I'm not sure he expected to move to center when he transferred to West Virginia, but it was likely a possibility they discussed during the recruiting process. So far, he's handled it well and is taking control up front. What once felt like a battle between him and Landen Livingston, who started last season for the Mountaineers, now looks more like King's job to lose.

IOL Cam Griffin

Griffin is the Swiss Army Knife of the offensive line. During his time at Jacksonville State, he saw action at all five positions, although he primarily played left guard. He is continuing to be repped at both guard spots, as well as center, and offensive line coach Rick Trickett said the other day that he had a really strong first two days of camp. He already has Trickett's trust and knows this system like the back of his hand, although he wasn't in it last season. He played for Rich Rod in 2023 and 2024, so it's all coming naturally to him. If something were to happen to any one of the starters, he's probably the top option to go in. If not the clear-cut No. 1, he's among the top options.

DL Yendor Mack

Mack is making some moves, even earning some praise from head coach Rich Rodriguez and junior defensive lineman Nate Gabriel on Monday. It remains to be seen if he can play his way into the rotation up front by the start of the season, but he is certainly helping his case. He is eager to learn, willing to be coached, and has made a ton of progress in the weight room, putting on 44 pounds since he signed back in December.

WLB Cam Torbor

The redshirt freshman is battling for a starting spot at the WILL against Illinois transfer Malachi Hood and others. The size (6'3", 239 lbs), speed, and athleticism are all there for him to become an impact player this season. Pretty much everyone you talk to about Torbor sees a big role for him this fall, but the game is still a little fast for him at the moment. That's to be expected for a young player in a very complicated Zac Alley defense. Once things slow down, he could very well turn into one of West Virginia's top defenders.
