Come next season, the world of college football and in particular the SEC will look a lot different. Landmark conference realignment moves will become official, affording Alabama a chance to play two new rivals in the future.

This season looked like it was going to be an down effort for the Crimson Tide after the loss to Texas, a future SEC opponent, and then a close game against USF, but the team turned things around and stopped any narrative that the Nick Saban dynasty was over by winning the SEC title and making the College Football Playoff.

But the addition of the Longhorns in addition to Oklahoma to the SEC ranks in the 2024 season will make Alabama's schedule even tougher than it usually is. What will things look like next year?

SEC football schedule for 2024

The SEC football schedule will change somewhat in the 2024 season, with teams set to play eight conference opponents and one game against a power conference or other independent.

And there's considerable talk that the SEC could add a ninth conference game to the schedule starting in 2025.

Moreover, divisions are history. Instead of there being an East vs. West matchup in the SEC Championship Game, the league will host the top two teams based on records and any tiebreakers.
