ESPN College GameDay is hitting the road for the opening weekend of the 2022 college football season to take in one of the biggest games of the year.

The network announced it will be in Columbus on Sept. 3 ahead of the kickoff between Notre Dame and Ohio State live from the Horseshoe.

The pits two teams that could be in the race for the College Football Playoff all season, making this game absolutely crucial for both sides.

The CFP selection committee places great importance on these kinds of wins, so it will be partial to whichever team wins this game, and less forgiving of the loser.

Ohio State ranked No. 1 in total offense a year ago, but will debut a new defensive scheme after the unit struggled in losses to Oregon and Michigan a year ago.

Notre Dame brings in first-year coach Marcus Freeman, an OSU alum, to appear in his first regular season matchup for the Irish, in one of the most intense atmospheres in the sport.
