Phyllis from Mulga, the passionate Alabama football fan who became famous for her feisty and opinionated calls on The Paul Finebaum Show, died on Wednesday, her son said on social media.

"She passed away this morning peacefully at 9:46 a.m. as I held her hand," her son, Christopher, said on her Facebook page.

"My mother was an inspiration to anyone fighting for their lives. She beat lung cancer, years later she beat breast cancer. And for the last few years battled COPD until her fight finally ended this morning."

Finebaum paid tribute to Phyllis, "an unforgettable force of a woman, she helped define this show as a place where college football fans could profess their passion and defend the honor of their teams."

Phyllis' calls were legendary, often abrasive, and always impassioned, making for must-hear radio, often defending her beloved Crimson Tide from any and all comers, whether they be fans of rival SEC teams or any commentator who dared to cross Alabama or Nick Saban.

Her most famous rant came in 2014, the year Alabama lost to Ole Miss in the regular season, and when she took the opportunity to correct the record after Colin Cowherd speculated that the Bama dynasty was over.

"The dynasty is not over. Do you hear me, Cowturd?"

Phyllis was right: Alabama has won three national championships since then, in 2015, 2017, and 2020, and finished in the top-five in all but one season.

"She will never be duplicated," Finebaum said.
