College football injury report: Washington loses top RB Cameron Davis, what's next for the Huskies?

Washington running back Cameron Davis will miss the entire 2023 college football season after suffering an injury, Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer said on Tuesday. Davis was expected to play a major role for the team's offense this coming fall as it looks to contend for the Pac-12 conference title.

What happened: DeBoer didn't go into any details, but did say that Davis sustained a lower body injury late last week.

Why it matters: Davis was the only tailback to rush for at least 10 touchdowns in the Pac-12 a year ago, amassing 522 total yards on the ground and scoring 13 times while playing in 11 games for the Huskies as the backup to Wayne Taulapapa, now in the NFL. He also had 137 yards as a receiver, catching 19 passes.

What they said: "Cam is a huge part of [the offense]," DeBoer said. "It’s his second year in the system, works so hard, leads the right way, disciplined guy. He not only does a great job with the ball in his hands but in pass protection he knows everything inside and out.

Where the Huskies go now: Losing someone like Davis is worrying for Washington as it game-plans an offense that should be one of the most productive in college football again this season, but UW has options. Namely, Dillon Johnson and Daniyel Ngata, transfers from Mississippi State and Arizona State, respectively. Johnson is the favorite to take the RB1 role after scoring 7 times and running for 973 yards over the last two years.
