Nation's No. 1 College Football Recruit Visits SEC Powerhouses Before Decision

In this story:
No other football player coming out of high school in the 2028 cycle is more highly thought of than Jalanie George after earning the prestigious No. 1 overall ranking, and predictably the list of schools throwing out offers has been long and considerable.
The five star Goodyear (Ariz.) defensive edge rusher has been on a whirlwind of important visits in the last several days and took in a slate of programs with a heavy SEC slant as he gets to know coaches around the country.
Where has George been?
For one, to almost half the SEC.
George was present at six programs across college football’s deepest conference, including the league’s reigning champion in Georgia.
The prospect met with Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and line coach Trey Scott and he said he was impressed with how many defensive linemen have gone through Athens on their way to the NFL in recent years.
Georgia has a good head start in the 2028 recruiting cycle, securing the pledge of No. 1 ranked quarterback Jayden Wade and No. 14 tight end Asa Wall.
Auburn also welcomed George on a visit, meeting up with new head coach Alex Golesh, who he described as “very serious and very honest.”
Other SEC programs in the mix
George met with Mississippi State shortly after, getting to know defensive line coach Ty Warren, noting that he’s looking forward to going back for another visit in the future.
Across the state, the top prospect took in Ole Miss, where head coach Pete Golding told George that he was one of the school’s top targets in 2028.
LSU was next for George, who while there spoke with Lamar Brown, the defensive tackle Lamar Brown, who ESPN called the No. 1 overall recruit in 2026.
Lastly in the SEC, the edge rusher was at Texas A&M and defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie, and where two of George’s former teammates at Desert Edge, Jamar Beal-Goines and Cam Hamiel, are currently enrolled.
ACC contender also in play
Georgia Tech is also in the conversation for George after he visited with the program in Atlanta recently, revealing high praise for defensive line coach Kyle Pope.
Tech is coming off a banner season in 2025 that included its first 8-0 start since 1966, and finished with a 9-4 mark as Brent Key completed his third year as head coach.
What the analysts think of George
Quite a lot, as George currently rates as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 college football recruiting class, according to the latest average of the national services.
That includes a No. 1 national ranking both overall in the country and among all edge rushers, according to the industry generated 247Sports Composite.
All averages list George as a consensus five star prospect in 2028.
Where could he commit?
Right now, one SEC program leads the way to ultimately get George’s commitment in 2028, according to one expert analytical metric.
Ole Miss is way out in front at this stage in his recruitment process, with a projected 25.5 percent chance to sign him, according to Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Randall Joyner, entering his sixth season as defensive line coach at Ole Miss, is said to be leading the school’s recruitment of George.
What the experts say
George has been considered the best, or one of the very best, prospects coming out of high school in 2028.
“The combination of size and burst off the edge sticks out,” Rivals director of scouting and rankings Charles Power said of the prospect.
Power added that George “has positional versatility and upside along the defensive front” as a Power Four starter when he finally comes out.
Where that could be remains an open question, and until it gets answered, the nation’s top 2028 recruit will see as many schools as he can.
