Former Boston Red Sox World Champion Signs with Independent League Team

After rumors that he was retiring this offseason, former Boston Red Sox World Series champion outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. has signed a deal with the Independent League Long Island Ducks.

Former Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Kansas CIty Royals outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. has found a new home, signing with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post had the news on social media:

Jackie Bradley Jr. signs with Long Island Ducks, team announces

The 33-year-old Bradley is joining the Ducks in an attempt to show that he still has what it takes to play in the Majors. There were rumors that he was retiring this offseason but that evidently is not the case.

An 11-year veteran, Bradley is best known for his part of nine years with the Red Sox. He was drafted and developed by Boston, helping them win a World Series in both 2013 and 2018. A great defender, he also won a Gold Glove Award with the Red Sox and was named ALCS MVP in 2018.

A streaky hitter always, Bradley is a .225 lifetime hitter with a .303 on-base percentage. It's his bat that seems to be preventing him from getting back to the big leagues right now, but perhaps he'll find his stroke on Long Island.

Over the last three years, Bradley has hit just .163, .210 and .133. He was with the Royals last year before being designated for assignment after 43 games.

In addition to the World Series title and the Gold Glove, "JBJ" was also named an American League All-Star in 2016. He hit a career-high 26 homers that season for the Sox.
