Rafael Devers' Lineup Status For Boston Red Sox-Los Angeles Angels Game on Sunday

For the fourth straight game, the Boston Red Sox are sitting Rafael Devers. The superstar third baseman will miss Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels with a continued sore shoulder.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Boston Red Sox are sitting superstar third baseman Rafael Devers.

The 27-year-old stalwart is dealing with a sore shoulder and won't play when the Red Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon.

Per Chris Cotillo of MassLIVE:

Red Sox today:

Duran LF, Reyes 2B, O’Neill RF, Casas 1B, Dalbec 3B, Yoshida DH, Wong C, Rafaela CF, Hamilton SS

The Red Sox have the annual 11 a.m. EST "Patriots Day" game on Monday, so it remains to be seen if Devers is gearing up to return for that game, but either way, this is a disappointing development for both player and team.

Devers' shoulder has been bothering him since the end of spring training and he also missed two games in the season-opening series against Seattle. Furthermore, this past Thursday night, the Sox were essentially out of bench players, but they elected to lose the DH and put the pitcher in the lineup rather than put Devers into the game. The Sox have been trying to avoid placing him on the injured list.

After having already lost Lucas Giolito and Trevor Story for the season, any loss of Devers is a major setback.

One of the best hitters in baseball over the last few years, he's a lifetime .279 hitter with 174 home runs. He's a two-time All-Star and a 2018 World Series champion. Having debuted in 2017, Devers has been remarkably durable. He has never played less than 121 games in any full season (and he played 57/60 games in the COVID 2020 season). He hit a career-high 38 homers back in 2021 and has three seasons of 100 RBI or more.

The Red Sox and Angels play on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET.
