As a cherry on top of his breakout sophomore season, Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello is putting up historic numbers against the rival New York Yankees.

Bello went 6.0 innings deep against the Pinstripes on Friday night, allowing just one earned run to help Boston run away with the 8-3 win in The Bronx. The performance brought his record to 9-7 on the season while also cutting his ERA down to 3.70.

It was Bello's fifth career start against the Yankees, four of which have now been of the quality variety.

Bello has thrown 31.0 innings versus New York, allowing just five earned runs. That gives Bello a 1.45 career ERA against the Yankees.

According to Red Sox employee JP Long, Bello now owns the lowest ERA against the Yankees of any pitcher in the live-ball era, minimum five starts.

Bello just beats out Johnny Cueto, who has a 1.50 ERA, as well as Clayton Kershaw's 1.85 and Matt Harvey's 1.91.

Friday's start may have actually been Bello's worst against the Yankees to this point in his career. He tossed 5.0 scoreless in his rivalry debut last season, then followed that up with one earned in 6.0 frames a few weeks later.

Bello had two more starts versus New York back in June, allowing two earned in 7.0 innings the first time and giving up one in 7.0 the next time around.

Considering the fierce rivals and division foes play each other 18 to 19 times a year, the Red Sox are surely glad to have a 24-year-old hurler with a history of buzzing through the Yankees. Boston once paid David Price $217 million to join its rotation, despite him finishing his career with a 5.04 ERA against the Yankees, and now they have the historically dominant Bello under team control until 2029.

Bello's next start won't be until Boston's upcoming road series against the Houston Astros, but the Red Sox will take on the Yankees again Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.

Kutter Crawford, who has a 2.08 career ERA against New York, will get the start for Boston. AL Cy Young favorite Gerrit Cole will toe the rubber for the Yankees, but he has a 4.31 career ERA against the Red Sox – his highest against any American League club.
