Los Angeles Angels' Randal Grichuk Does Something Franchise Hasn't Had Happen in More Than 15 Years

The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk in a trade with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

On Monday? He was homering in his first game with his new team and making some unique team history by doing something that hadn't been done in more than 15 years for the franchise.

Per Matt Birch of the Angels on social media:

Randal Grichuk is the first player to homer in his #Angels debut since Anthony Rendon on July 28, 2020 vs. Seattle.

He's also the first Halos draft pick to homer in his debut with the team since Mike Napoli on May 4, 2006 at Detroit

Grichuk was drafted in the first round of the 2009 draft by the Angels but never appeared for the franchise until now. He began his career in 2014 with the Cardinals and has also played for the Blue Jays, Rockies and now the Angels.

He's hitting .308 this season (entering play on Monday). He now has nine home runs on the year.

Lifetime, he's got 183 homers over 10 seasons in the big leagues.

The Angels entered play at 55-51 on the year and are seeking their first playoff appearance since 2014. They are 5.0 games out of first place in the National League West while being 4.0 games back in the wild card.

The team has also acquired CJ Cron, Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Mike Moustakas and Eduardo Escobar during this trade season.

The Angels are playing the best-in-baseball Atlanta Braves this week in Atlanta before a critical series this weekend with the Seattle Mariners.
