Los Angeles Angels Star Shohei Ohtani Joins... Himself Atop This All-Time Team List

The Los Angeles Angels continue to wrestle with what to do with Shohei Ohtani as Ohtani himself continues to make team history.

The Los Angeles Angels beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-5.

The win moved the Angels to 51-49 on the season through the first 100 games and continues to make the decision of what to do with Shohei Ohtani even tougher.

The Angels enter play on Monday at 4.0 games out of the final spot in the American League wild card race. For a team that hasn't been to the playoffs since 2014, making a run at the postseason is a thing that they certainly want to do.

That said, they aren't a lock to make the playoffs, and if they see Ohtani leave in free agency for nothing, they'll wonder why they didn't trade him now and capitalize on likely historic value.

While the front office continues to wrestle with the decision upstairs, Ohtani continues to produce at a historic rate.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Shohei Ohtani hit his 36th HR of the season on Sunday.

That ties himself in 2021 for the most in the Angels first 100 games of a season in team history.

Ohtani won the MVP award in 2021 and figures to be a lock to win it again this year. His 36 home runs lead all of baseball and he's also driven in 77. He's got 11 stolen bases, a .302 average and a 1.072 OPS.

On the mound, it's been more of a struggle for Ohtani recently, but he's still 8-5 with a 3.71 ERA. One of the most prolific strikeout artists in the game, he's fanned 148 batters in 111.2 innings.

The Angels start a series with the Tigers on Tuesday.
