In this story:

When you make a move at the trade deadline, it doesn't always work out.

Sometimes, a new player doesn't fit in to a new clubhouse right away. Sometimes, a new player comes in and feels pressure and slumps. Whatever the reason is, it just doesn't always click.

That isn't the case for Miami Marlins trade deadline acquisition Josh Bell, who is thriving since moving to South Beach from Cleveland.

Though the Marlins lost to the San Diego Padres on Monday night, Bell did his part, going 2-for-4 with another home run, as he continues to make team history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

most HR in 1st 18 games with Marlins:

2023 Josh Bell: 7

2001 Charles Johnson: 7

2004 Hee-Seop Choi: 6

1998 Derrek Lee: 6 1997

Moises Alou: 6

Bell’s are the most for a Marlin whose 1st 18 games came outside of April

The power hitting first baseman has brought some thump to the middle of the Marlins order, exactly as he was expected to do. He's now hitting .245 this year with 18 home runs and 60 RBI. He's in his eighth year in the big leagues with the Pirates, Nationals, Padres, Guardians and Marlins.

After the loss, the Marlins are now 64-62. They have fallen to 1.5 games back in the National League wild card race. The Padres are still hanging around at 60-66. They are 5.5 games back.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
