Seattle Mariners' Young Starter, Key Reliever Continue to Get Positive Injury News

The Seattle Mariners, coming off a win on Friday night against the Chicago Cubs, got some positive injury news on starting pitcher Bryan Woo and reliever Matt Brash. Both could be ready for rehab assignments within the next week.

The Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, 4-2, to move to 6-8 on the season, and they also got some positive injury news on starting pitcher Bryan Woo and reliever Matt Brash.

Per Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times on social media:

Bryan Woo and Matt Brash are tracking toward rehab stints in the next 7-10 days.

That's excellent news for Seattle on multiple fronts and if all goes well, both pitchers conceivably could be back by the middle of May.

In Woo's case, he would help solidify the starting rotation again. In Brash's case, he would give the Mariners the dynamite back-end of the bullpen that they envisioned at the outset of the season.

The 24-year-old Woo made his Major League debut last season, going 4-5 with a 4.21 ERA. But like fellow young starter Bryce Miller, he has electric stuff and can help give Seattle one of the best rotations in the entire league. He has been dealing with elbow inflammation, and there are still more hurdles to clear, but if and when he comes back, he'll replace Emerson Hancock in the starting rotation.

As for Brash, he led baseball in appearances last year with 73 and is one of the best strikeout artists in the entire sport. When he comes back, he'll pair with Andres Munoz to make a great eighth and ninth-inning tandem. The team is still working to get Gregory Santos back as well to fit into that group.

Seattle will take on the Cubs again on Saturday night at 9:40 p.m. ET.
