Detroit Tigers youngster Riley Greene took a good step in recovery from a broken fibula on Tuesday.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Greene (fibula) did some straight-line running on the field Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

ANALYSIS
Greene was still wearing an air cast to protect the stress fracture in his left fibula and wasn't going all-out with his sprints. It's a nice step in the young outfielder's rehab nonetheless. There still doesn't appear to be a clear timetable for Greene's return to action.

So, it still could be a while for Greene's return, but it's good news nonetheless. His development is an incredibly big part of the Tigers rebuild. He and Spencer Torkelson couple to make up the nucleus of the Tigers future offense.

The problem for Detroit has been the injuries to the pitching staff. As the Tigers rebuilt, they focused around young pitching and currently Casey Mize, Matt Manning and Tarik Skubal are all injured.

The 22-year-old and former No. 5 overall pick (Greene) in the draft is hitting .296 with five home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.

He made his major league debut in 2022 and is a lifetime .268 hitter with 10 home runs.

The Tigers are currently 31-40 and in third place in the American League Central. They've lost two straight and are 5-5 in the last 10 games.

They'll host the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. ET. Michael Lorenzen will pitch for the Tigers against Daniel Lynch for the Royals.
