The Boston Red Sox have placed first baseman Triston Casas on the 10-day injured list, the team announced Saturday afternoon. To round out the active roster, the Red Sox recalled infielder Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Worcester.

Casas, who will miss at least the next eight games, is dealing with right shoulder inflammation. He will be eligible to return for Boston's showdown with the Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 26, at which point there will only be six games left in the regular season.

Casas has appeared in 132 games so far in 2023, enjoying quite the midseason turnaround. After batting .184 with a .642 OPS through June 3, Casas is batting .307 with a .974 OPS ever since.

The rookie is currently hitting .263 with an .856 on the whole this year, all while racking up 24 home runs, 64 RBI and a 2.2 WAR. Casas currently leads the Red Sox in walks, on-base percentage and OPS+, and he owned the second-best odds to win AL Rookie of the Year before going down with this latest injury.

Casas' replacement, Dalbec, was the franchise's previous top prospect at first base before he fizzled out over the past year.

Dalbec made his major league debut in 2020, and he continued to show streaky bursts of power in both 2021 and 2022 by hitting 44 home runs in his first 242 appearances. The infielder then lost his roster spot this spring after batting just .167 with a .452 OPS across 10 MLB games, putting up a negative WAR for the second year in a row.

Down in Triple-A, meanwhile, Dalbec hit .269 with 33 home runs, 79 RBI, 18 stolen bases and a .938 OPS in 2023.
