The Boston Red Sox, in fourth place in the deeply competitive American League East, are working on getting back two injured sluggers.

The Sox issued multiple injury updates on Friday before getting ready to play the Arizona Diamondbacks, including on shortstop Trevor Story and on outfielder Adam Duvall.

First, on Story, via Alex Speier of the Boston Globe:

Cora said Trevor Story us continuing to make steady progress. Is he being built up as a SS? “100 percent.”

He's been out all season after undergoing internal brace surgery on his throwing elbow during the offseason.

Story was signed to a six-year, $140 million contract before the 2022 season started. He played just 94 games for the Red Sox last year after dealing with other injuries. He hit .238 with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs.

The 30-year-old spent the first six years of his career with the Colorado Rockies. He is a two-time All-Star who has received MVP votes in three different seasons.

If he's being built up as a shortstop, it will leave the Red Sox with decisions to make. The team has been playing Enrique Hernandez at the position while also rotating in Yu Chang and Pablo Reyes. Chang is also currently hurt. Should Story come back healthy, Hernandez could move to second base or a bench role.

As for Duvall, he's been out since early April with a wrist injury that was sustained diving for a ball in center field.

Rob Bradford of WEEI has the latest on him:

Tuesday in Louisville Adam Duvall willl serve as the @WooSox DH

It's good to see him already set for a Triple-A rehab assignment. He was one of the hottest hitters in baseball during the first two weeks of the season.

He is hitting .455 with four home runs and 14 RBI this season.

The Red Sox will open up the series with the Diamondbacks on Friday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
