Boston Red Sox' Tanner Houck is the First Red Sox Pitcher to Ever Accomplish This Feat

The Boston Red Sox moved to 3-2 on the season with a 9-0 throttling of the Oakland Athletics on Monday night. In the win, Tanner Houck became the latest Sox pitcher to dominate, making some team history in the process.

The Boston Red Sox moved to 3-2 on the young season after dominating the hapless Oakland Athletics, 9-0, on Monday night.

In the win, the Sox capitalized on five Athletics' errors and got multi-hit efforts from Jarren Duran and Triston Casas.

Furthermore, the Sox once again got great pitching as Tanner Houck threw six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks. He struck out 10 and pounded the strikezone all night, throwing 63 of 83 pitches for strikes.

With his great performance, Houck also claimed a piece of Red Sox history.

Per @SoxNotes on social media:

Tanner Houck is the only Red Sox pitcher ever to allow 0 runs, issue 0 walks, and strike out 10+ batters in a season debut.

6.0 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K, 83 pitches

The Red Sox are supposed to have one of the weakest rotations in all of baseball, but so far through five games, they have been the best staff in the league.

The 27-year-old Houck is in his fifth Major League season, all with the Red Sox. He tossed a career-high 106.0 innings last year and seems destined to blow right past that this year. Lifetime, he's 16-19 with a 3.77 ERA, having served as both a starter and a reliever.

The Red Sox and A's will play again on Tuesday night with the first pitch slated for 9:40 p.m. ET. It's the second time around for both starting pitchers as Brayan Bello (1-0, 3.60 ERA) pitches against Alex Wood (0-1, 16.20 ERA).
